SUMMARY:Unlocking the Potential of HPC in the Google Cloud with Open-Sourc
 e Tools
DESCRIPTION:Tutorial\n\nCarlos Boneti, Wyatt Gorman, and Doug Jacobsen (Go
ogle LLC)\n\nCloud computing technologies have seen tremendous growth in r
ecent years, with many organizations moving their HPC workloads to the clo
ud due to its flexibility in the organization and provisioning of HPC infr
astructure. While such a diverse and flexible set of options brings additi
onal degrees of freedom, they also bring a daunting set of hardware and so
ftware choices. Furthermore, the lines between traditional system administ
rator and application deployment can be blurred. \n\nIn this tutorial, we
will provide a foundation to understand how to run HPC workloads in the cl
oud effectively and with minimal complexity. We start with a primer on clo
ud foundations and how they map to common HPC concepts, and then dive deep
er into core HPC cloud components. We then introduce important HPC partner
s, discuss industry-specific solutions and present blueprints describing i
nfrastructure, scheduler and applications.\n\nFinally, we present the best
practices to run HPC in the cloud and how to explore your options for the
best configuration for price/performance.\n\nThis tutorial will use a com
bination of lectures and hands-on labs using Google Cloud, the open-source
Google Cloud HPC Toolkit, Slurm, Spack, and other popular open-source HPC
software to provide a balance of both theoretical and hands-on learning.\
