SUMMARY:An Event Model for Trace-Based Performance Analysis of MPI Partiti
 oned Point-to-Point Communication
DESCRIPTION:Workshop\n\nIsabel Thärigen and Marc-André Hermanns (RWTH Aach
en University) and Markus Geimer (Forschungszentrum Jülich)\n\nThe MPI 4.0
standard introduced the concept of partitioned point-to-point communicati
on. One facet that may help in encouraging application developers to use
this new concept in their programs is the availability of proper tool supp
ort in a timely manner. We therefore propose nine new events extending th
e OTF2 event model to accurately represent the runtime behavior of partiti
oned point-to-point communication. We then demonstrate the suitability of
these extensions with three different use cases in the context of perform
ance analysis. In particular, we showcase a prototype implementation of a
n extended waitstate analysis in the Scalasca trace analyzer, and discuss
further potential use cases in the realm of trace visualization and simula
tion.\n\nTag: Performance Measurement, Modeling, and Tools, Programming Fr
ameworks and System Software\n\nRegistration Category: Workshop Reg Pass\n
\nSession Chairs: David Boehme (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LL
NL)); Anthony Danalis (University of Tennessee); and Josef Weidendorfer (L
eibniz Supercomputing Centre, Technical University of Munich)
